The XL2000S Sinapi Chest Drain is custom made for post-cardiac surgery patients. It is fitted with a tube roller and high negativity vent. The tube roller facilitates stripping of the tubing to remove clots, maintaining patency. Stripping, however, can generate transient high levels of negative intra-thoracic pressure which can be detrimental to tissues and areas being drained. The high negativity vent, positioned in the connector of this Sinapi chest drain, ensures that excessively high negative pressures cannot be achieved during this procedure. Using the Sinapi tube roller and high negativity vent therefore results in effective drainage and a reduction in blocked chest catheters without risk to the patient.

The Sinapi Sputum Cup was designed to reduce the amount of mucous specimens that are rejected at labs causing a delay in diagnosis and treatment of patients with tuberculosis (TB) and increasing the spread of TB: Clear MIN/MAX indicators ensure that a sufficient amount of specimen is obtained. Lid opening requires minimal twisting of the wrists reducing the risk of injury due to a high lab specimen load. The lid screws on securely minimising leakage during transport. Small increment measurements allow laboratory staff to accurately add buffer to the specimen.

Where feeding bottles are used the incidence of gastroenteritis is high, especially in poor, rural areas. Baby Bottles are very difficult to clean properly, even when using hot water and soap . Therefore, many hospitals have removed all baby bottles from their maternity services and wards as they believe that cup feeding is safer than bottle feeding. Sinapi has designed a cup which can be autoclaved, boiled, exposed to UV-light (sun) and can be easily cleaned with soap and water. There are no sharp corners or crevices where build-up of milk product can occur. Furthermore, the cup is made from polypropylene that does not facilitate the adherence of protein deposits. Most baby bottles are made from polycarbonate, which has recently come under the spotlight because of the Bisphenol A scare. It is also documented that polycarbonate is used in techniques in which protein binding to plastic surfaces is required. Since bacteria adheres readily to proteins, polycarbonate is therefore poorly suited as a material from which baby bottles are manufactured.

The purpose of the drainage bag is to allow drainage of fluid without any exposure of bodily fluids to nursing staff. Once fluid has been drained, the bag is immediately discarded. The bag is fitted with a custom bayonet fitting that fits securely to the drainage tap and a cap is supplied with which to seal off the bag once it is disconnected from the tap. The internal diameter is large to ensure easy drainage of fluid.

The Sinapi Urine Meter was developed in consultation with ICU-nursing sisters to improve infection control and ease-of-use.

Infection control is improved by using taps that reduce the chances of cross-contamination between patient and healthcare worker by maximizing the distance between users’ fingers and tap outlets. An extra chamber also helps prevent fluid reflux.

Ease of use is improved by providing accurate readings for patients with low urinary output and a large rigid holder (590ml) to cater for patients with high urinary output. The tubing is comfortably soft with a large diameter to ensure rapid fluid drainage. A built-in hanger in the bottle’s base ensures that it can be hung upside down to allow gravity feeding or pump feeding. It has volume markings to measure feed volumes; one side measures volumes when the bottle is in an upright position and the other when the bottle is hanging upside down.

AUTOCLAVING The Enteral Feeding Bottle can be re-used and is made from a grade of plastic that withstands high temperatures and can therefore be autoclaved. We advise that a temperature of no more than 120deg Celsius be used during autoclaving.
